Puzzle games are popular amongst children of all ages

The game environment surrounding children has changed significantly compared to the past, including the mobile game machines and smartphone game applications. And since programming is becoming a mandatory part of the child’s education from 2020, there are many games and toys to learn while playing. With this background, we conducted a survey targeting parents with children between the ages of 3~12 who play games to assess their attitudes and ideas regarding games and children.

< TOPICS >

  • Puzzle games are popular amongst children of all ages
  • According to preschool children, games = apps
  • Fathers view games as a tool to communicate with their children rather than for educational purposes, but for mothers, games are just for fun and have a negative connotation
  • Parents feel that the influence of games on their children’s development and education become more negative the older the children get
  • Parents expect their child to get more imagination when playing educational games
  • Parents fear that games will have a bad psychological effect and hinder their children’s communication skills

Fathers see games as a tool to communicate with their children

Fathers play video games with their children more often than mothers, and from this we can assume that fathers use games as a tool to communicate with their children. However, from elementary and high-school age onwards, we see a downwards trend of this, and children start to play games by themselves more and more.
